New York graffiti mecca slash the world’s biggest writers bench 5 Pointz has fallen victim to the scourge of buffers before being demolished.
Under the cover of night the walls have been painted in white, not leaving one tag, burner or piece intact. And people are not happy:
5 Pointz being whitewashed…not even torn down yet-is a middle finger by the owners to all of its supporters. Make no mistake about it.

The five-storey warehouse in Queens has been a popular gathering spot for graffiti enthusiasts and artists alike. Since 2002 it has hosted a curated selection of graffiti from artists the world over. Owner Jeff Wolkoff has defended the overnight desecration saying “I can imagine going one piece, one piece and going through hell, torture to everybody. So I said, ‘let me do it one time and and the torture one time.'” Have a look at some reactions below:
The coolest thing about writing the 7 Train to Queens is seeing the amazing artwork that adorns the wall of #5Pointz — Mr. Peralta (@peraltaprjct) November 19, 2013

Painting over 5 Pointz before tearing it down is one of the most artistically and culturally disrespectful moves I’ve seen in a while. Damn. — Clinton Yates (@clintonyates) November 19, 2013
